Graphics -Day Three

Front the beginning of the week we where told that on the last day we where going to make a poster about our future. I decided to image in 20 years time that I would be a film maker, from our work on day one I thought it would be interesting to do something with college and pretend the images where from the films I had created over the 20 years. I was also interested in doing something with the profile of the face as the exhibition was about myself but I didn't want it to be too oveouse. Some of my initial ideas I also looked at doing something with my initials 'BM' This lead me to come up with a number of out comes. All based on the use of images.

Graphics -Day Two

After watching video of Milton Glaser - Point walking about his work in graphics design and how he worked in the industry. As well as another video called ----.

From this we explores creating fonts. I decide to to do experiments such as scrunching up papers, drawing scribbles and using string and paper to see what shapes come out of them organically. From this I liked the shapes of the letter coming from the piece of string, therefore I used this you create my new style of font.

We then looked at a font called 'Gill Sans' and 'Hevetica Neue' to see the similarities and the differences. From that we had to use the letters to create an image, only being one word. I decide to do my last name 'Miller' and then chose to have the letters all different sizes, and rearrange the letters to they where not in a conventional fashion.

I enjoyed exploring different drawing techniques around the face, first we had to draw the person opposite us from memory, secondly with the wrong hand, thirdly drawing with our mouth and finally drawing with a continuous line. I feel like this made me feel more freely about creating a face later in the day.

After this we spent 40 mins drawing ears, I deiced to draw mine in colour and focus on the shapes in the ear more than anything. It was amazing seeing all the A3 ears together on level 4.

Finally we had to explore the face with images which we had brought in with us. I took all my images from magazines and newspapers, so I found it especially interesting to see how similar all the models looked and how there expressions seems to have trends. We then had to chose a element of our colleges and enlarge it.

3D Design Weekly Review

I really enjoy exploring 3D Design week. I think this was for a number of reasons. I enjoyed how hangs on we worked through out the whole week, I also liked how we where always trying to solve a problem, we where practially trying to think of a way to do something and also trying for it to look attractive. 3D Design exciting me from the begining as we began by drawing common and usual shape then try to create to turn them into something different, this lead me to be more creative when through out the rest of the week and think of shapes and space differently.
From this we had to build a structure that had to support a water bottle only from a few sheets of paper and tape. I wanted to take insperation from our visit to the surpentine gallery the week before. However my structure as not strong enough to support the bottle, i think this was because of the matirates I was using, although I tried to roll the paper up so that the tubes where strong they still where not strong enough. Learning from this when our next task came to up a structure we could sit on from four sheets of carboard. I knew I should think more carefully about I biuld my structure.
I decied to slot my sheet together as I through this would off the most support and is contributes the weight. I was happy that this worked however in a rush I slot the carboard in the opposite direction and this lead the chair to be crushed.
On the second day we had to build bridges. First of all we had to experiment with paper to create bridges, this was intresting to explore shapes and structure. From this we then had to build a real bridge between two tables strong enough fro a toy car to be driven across. It was fun to work as part of a team as we all came up with different ideas and this lead us to come up with something that worked well. We took insteration from a wooden string bridge and build a structure which was supported at ether side rather than through out.
Finally on the third day we had to build a structure which could support three plastic balls all at onces with out them touching each other from only 20 pieces of spaggetti and glue from a glue gun. This was really challenging as spaggeti is not very flexable and 20 pieces is not a lot. I also wanted it to look actractive and intresting. After this we had to protect our structure as best that we could. As my structure was quite small I decided to surond it with tubes taller than it take the weigh, I also decied to cussion it with scrunched bits of paper at the base.
